Support for WVA Awards 2018

The 2018 World Veterinary Association (WVA) Global Welfare Awards are being staged in Barcelona, Spain, and Good Call Media will play a key role in the event following our successful partnership in 2017.

Filming in Kenya for the 2017 awards.

Our green screen studio can be used for any of our clients to publicise events.

We used our ‘green screen studio’ concept to record a video trailer for the ceremony, which has been used throughout social media to highlight the nominations for the Awards and details of the event itself. The news bulletin approach is a colourful and dynamic way of generating interest in an event and we have now used it successfully for a variety of different clients.

Click here to see the trailer.

The relationship is organised through our ‘patron’ client – worldwide animal health company Ceva Santé Animale which has offices in over 40 countries. Six awards, one for each of the international regions represented by the WVA, will be handed out to vets that have gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to demonstrating the best of skills when it in promoting animal welfare.

Barcelona, Spain, is the venue for the 2018 WVA Awards.

Good Call Media’s, Nik Wood, hosted the 2017 awards on stage in Incheon, South Korea. Our company also organised video reports highlighting the work of each of the winners in Colombia, the USA, Kenya, the Philippines, the UK and Egypt. The Awards will be staged as part of the World Veterinary Congress being staged in Barcelona between May 5-8, 2018. Nominations closed at the end of January and watch out for further studio-based trailers for the event in the coming months.

The Awards follow the success of the Ceva UK Welfare Awards which will also be staged again in 2018. That event will take place in Birmingham, UK, on 4 April and Good Call Media will be at the event to record interviews with the winners immediately they leave the stage. These interviews are then posted on social media within minutes of being recorded.

The speed and profile of this approach is particularly popular with the Awards sponsors as they too are interviewed and these clips, together with their company logos are included in the social media videos which they can then ‘share’ immediately after the ceremony finishes. “Because of our background working in BBC news and current affairs, we are able to turn video content around very quickly,” said Good Call Media’s Nik Wood.

Our Ten Years In Business

Good Call Media is celebrating its tenth anniversary year and we would like to thank all our clients, some of whom have become personal friends, for all the fantastic work they have trusted us with over the years.

What started out as the germ of an idea to set up a small business making commercial video and hosting live events has developed into a multi-national operation which works alongside major companies and worldwide organisations in a variety of different sectors.

Our business was originally formed when former BBC business correspondent Nik Wood, set up Nik Wood Communications Ltd after working as marketing and communications director with several multi-national companies, latterly BNP Paribas Real Estate. Good Call Media is now co-owned by Nik and his partner, Fiona Molloy, who worked as a director and producer with a series of leading broadcast organisations including the BBC.
“I had been watching the development of online video and also the invention of a new idea called You Tube and had been writing articles in the marketing and communications trade press warning companies that a revolution was about to begin in video and what we now know as social media,” said Nik. “However I lacked the confidence to resign from a well paid City of London job and start my own operation. I remember thinking, no-one has to pay me once I start in business myself but people I respected at senior level in corporate life convinced me that I was capable of building a successful business – it was the best advice I ever had.”

Initial contracts included work with The Brookwood Partnership. A pioneer in its time, Brookwood put fresh food back on the menu and skilled chefs back in the kitchens of many of the UK’s independent schools and the fact that they are still an excellent client of our company is a testament to the strength of that relationship. Another contract, with the UK’s Department For International Development (DFID) involved regular work in over 15 African countries and resulted the setting up of a new project called Research Into Use, which pioneered the use of video filming in the field of agriculture and livestock management.

As the business grew bigger covering many different sectors including finance, manufacturing, leisure, hospitality, technology, healthcare and communications, it became more difficult to cope with the growing demands from clients. About this time, Fiona Molloy, who had worked with Nik Wood on flagship BBC business programmes such as ‘Working Lunch’ on BBC 2, “Business Breakfast’ on BBC 1, the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and ‘Wake Up To Money’ on BBC Radio 5 Live joined the business to work on existing projects and also develop new business.

Those new clients have included Variety The Children’s Charity. We produce videos to kick off their major fund raising events such as the Yorkshire Property Awards, The Yorkshire Business Awards and also events in central London that raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for young people who face a variety of different challenges in life. Volition RX is another growing client which is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange and is developing a simple and affordable blood test to help diagnose a range of cancers at an early stage which can lead to successful treatment.

“It’s obviously great to partner with new clients but when those organisations are also helping to improve or even save lives, it makes our work even more rewarding,” said Fiona. “These companies really seem to value our heritage working in the BBC because we can tell their stories in a compelling way.”

In recent years we have started to work on a retained basis for clients such as Ceva Santé Animale the international animal health company which has offices in over 40 countries. We work all year round for Ceva and have helped to develop a world leading video platform for the business which is marketed as Ceva TV. Nik Wood also regularly appears on stage, leading professional debates, question and answer sessions and also interviewing key opinion leaders from some of the world’s most respected universities.

2017 was the most successful year yet in the history of the business.

“After such a year, it’s hard to think of further growth but demand is still increasing for what we do,” said Nik. “Our success is obviously down to hard work but we also thank those clients who have helped Good Call Media to get where it is today.”

“So a Happy New Year for all those people 2018 and if you need help or advice on developing innovative communications, don’t hesitate to give us a call!”

Giving Life a Lift for 25 years

A lot can change in twenty-five years in the world of business and it certainly has for leading stairlift manufacturer Acorn Stairlifts, who celebrated their 25th anniversary at the end of 2017.  Started from humble beginnings in 1992, the global, West-Yorkshire based company is an incredible success story and has gone from producing a handful of stairlifts each year to having installed 600,000 stairlifts worldwide and being able to say that somewhere in the world an Acorn Stairlift is fitted every eight minutes. The company is dedicated to the design, manufacture, sale, installation and aftercare of stairlifts. Today they are the market leader in the US, operate in 11 countries and employ 1700 staff around the world.

Consumed by the day to day running of the business it isn’t always easy to find the time to look back at how a company has grown but our internal ‘Acorn Stairlift’s 25th Anniversary Film’ remembering world events and noting the various Acorn milestones certainly helped staff to feel very proud of what they have achieved, celebrate the rapid growth they have created and feel buoyed about the future.

Congratulations Acorn we hope the next 25 years brings more continued success.

Huddersfield Town FC owner Dean Hoyle was named businessman of the year, supermarket giant Morrisons won board of the year, pest control firm Pelsis won best SME award and Heck! Food ltd won best young business.
Dean Hoyle said: “It’s not about individuals, it’s about the team. “I had a wonderful team there (at the Card Factory). They really helped me deliver. I couldn’t have done it by myself. “Football is very similar. You can have the best players on the pitch, but if you don’t have the leadership, and we had the magnificent David Wagner, then I wouldn’t be standing here today.

Speaking of Huddersfield Town’s promotion to the Premier League he said: “It’s put the town on the map, it’s put Yorkshire on the map.”
Accepting the award for board of the year Julian Bailey, PR director of Morrisons, said: “We’re really known for being a Yorkshire company, so it’s great to win an award in Yorkshire. “It’s a team effort; we’ve got 100,000 people working every single day to deliver customers brilliant food at a fair price.”
Pelsis CEO Peter Mangion said: “We’ve grown mainly by acquisition over the last seven years or so. We’ve done seven deals. That will continue to be the case going forward.”

Countdown To Prestigious Awards

The countdown has begun to one of Yorkshire’s premier social events – the annual Yorkshire Business Awards organised by Variety The Children’s Charity…and our dynamic video will kick off the ceremony.

The event is being staged at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds on Friday December 8.

We’ve been filming with some of the shortlisted nominees for the Awards which feature categories such as Business Leader Of The Year, Yorkshire Board Of The Year, SME Of The Year and Young Business Of The Year, celebrating all that is best in Yorkshire business.

A second video, filmed by Good Call Media’s Fiona Molloy, will highlight the moving story behind the appeal that will be run by Variety as part of the fund raising event.

Variety has provided over 5,000 Sunshine Coaches in the past 51 years, nearly 200 of those are run on Yorkshire’s roads. Our Sunshine Coach programme enables children with disabilities to develop their life skills by enjoying activities such as riding for the disabled, swimming lessons, residential trips and accessing Variety at Work (Variety Great Days Out).

Variety Great Days Out provides educational outings, events, days out and special treats for schools where children are either disabled or come from a very deprived background. Last year Variety Great Days Out entertained over 3,500 children and 400 carers. Variety Great Days Out provides respite from the worries many children face in their everyday lives and most importantly creates lasting happy memories which sadly are few and far between.

Good Call Media ‘Down Under’

Australia provides the backdrop for our latest international filming assignment.

As part of our partnership with world wide animal health company, Ceva, we are creating videos looking at a variety of subjects including products to improve sheep production and a successful campaign to help improve the health of Australia’s population of iconic koalas.

Ceva is recognized as an expert in the field of small ruminants reproduction. Innovation has been the driver for Ceva when developing products for small ruminant veterinarians and producers. The use of melatonin (Regulin®) as a reproductive tool was one of the latest contributions of Ceva in this field and we will be filming a video report in connection with the work being carried out in as part of this process in Australia.

Regulin® is designed to reduce the number of dry ewes.  This occurred in 96% of the trials conducted. Trials have shown that there is a reduction in the number of non-pregnant ewes by over 30%. In the absence of other identifiable fertility problems, the lower the lambing percentage, the more potential Regulin offers to reduce dry ewes.

A further benefit is there is less variability in lambing percentages.   Increased twining also is a result of Regulin.  These are from ewes that would have produced twins had they been joined in Autumn.

Australian koalas are being successfully cured of a life-threatening disease, chlamydia, and released back into the wild, thanks to the help of global animal health company, Ceva Santé Animale.

Between 30 and 50 per cent of the Australian koala population in the wild were suffering from chlamydia. There were fears that the sexually transmitted disease, which causes infertility, blindness and even death, could eventually wipe out the entire koala population.

Ceva Australia had stopped manufacture of chloramphenicol, an older type of antibiotic, when they learned that it was the primary drug used to treat chlamydia in koalas.  Dr. Finola McConaghy, Ceva’s Technical Services Manager, was in contact with fellow veterinarians at the world famous Australia Zoo in Brisbane and offered to manufacture a new batch of the medicine to help combat the problem. Now other animal centres in Australia are treating their own koalas affected by the disease.

We will be travelling to Brisbane to update the story of Ceva’s role in helping to combat a growing problem of chlamydia, which has been threatening the health of the famous marsupials.

Australia Zoo senior vet Amber Gillett says Ceva’s intervention had been vital in tackling the chlamydia problem:

“I can’t emphasise enough how vital this drug is for treating chlamydia in koalas. We’ve tried multiple different drugs, and there is simply nothing as effective as this is. We’re eternally grateful for Ceva coming on board and agreeing to manufacture a large batch of this drug for us.”

Martin Mitchell, Group Communication Director of Ceva Santé Animale says: “When we learned of this problem we were delighted to react and play our role in safeguarding this iconic marsupial. Ceva is committed to combatting disease in animals to protect their welfare, not only is this the right thing to do, in the end we also help protect ourselves and importantly our environment.”

New Work With Volition

We’ve been helping our clients, Volition, quoted on the New York Stock Exchange, with a flurry of interviews and announcements surrounding their activities on their own website and also on social media outlets.

We crafted a special video invitation in our own Green Screen studio to their event which ties in with the 9th Annual Biotech Showcase Conference being held from January 9-11, 2017 in San Francisco, CA. At the Biotech Showcase, Cameron Reynolds, Chief Executive Officer of Volition, will provide an update on Volition’s business, clinical, regulatory and operational milestones, as well as the Company’s recently announced product launch of its Nu.QTM Colorectal Cancer Screening Triage Test.

We also interviewed Cameron Reynolds about the company’s latest set of results. Click here to see the latest videos.

Volition is a multi-national company developing simple, easy to use blood-based cancer tests to accurately diagnose a range of cancers. The tests are based on the science of Nucleosomics which is the practice of identifying and measuring nucleosomes in the bloodstream – an indication that cancer is present.

Volition has also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the National Taiwan University (“NTU”) to conduct two large colorectal cancer (CRC) research studies across the Asia Pacific Region, totaling approximately 7,000 patient samples. Subject to agreement on the terms and conditions, the Parties intend to sign a binding CRC Study Agreement in the first quarter of 2018.

“The signing of this MOU is a good start for Volition in the Asia Pacific Region” commented Dr. Jasmine Kway, Volition’s Vice President of Asia. “We are fortunate and delighted to be working with a renowned institution and Professor Han-Mo Chiu, a prominent thought leader. This large-scale study will be low cost in line with Volition’s other great value studies such as the 13,500-subject study in the U.S. and the ongoing 30,000-subject prospective study in Europe and demonstrates our commitment to conducting large trials worldwide to drive the acceptance of our products.”

One Health Day – videos go live

AnimalhealthEurope (formerly, IFAH) has gone live with our video roundup of their recent Congress in Brussels, which launched their new identity and strategy for the next five years and more video messages will be following on social media to tie in with today’s international One Health Day.

See the video by clicking here.

Good Call Media’s Nik Wood presents a comprehensive overview of the event and also interviews several key players, including the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis, who addressed the organisation’s gala dinner.

AnimahealthEurope’s 2017 conference explored solutions to turn the One Health vision into action. A central platform for the animal medicines industry, the One Health approach prioritises quality of life for people and animals and recognises that healthy animals mean healthy people and a healthier planet. Entitled “One Health: more than a buzzword? Animal health for society from vision to action” the conference, held on 12 October at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels, was solution-oriented. Speakers from industry, EU Institutions, academia and veterinary and public health bodies addressed an audience of some 120 stakeholders and looked to identify tangible steps that each must take in realising One Health improvements.

Setting the scene, the European Commission outlined the EU’s policy on One Health and its wide-reaching successes in terms of disease control. The World Organisation for Animal health (OIE) outlined the role of animal health within the One Health triad, highlighting the need for continued cooperation when it comes to disease preparedness at both European and global level. Several case studies presented served to illustrate the role of healthy animals beyond disease management, highlighting important societal impacts such as supporting food safety and sustainable food production, as well as the many social benefits of animal companionship. AranLIFE, a part EU-funded project, highlighted the role of healthy animals in maintaining biodiversity and the landscape, and how it supports the local economy. Two speakers from DG SANTE and DG AGRI detailed initiatives being taken by the European Commission to support the One Health vision.

The conference took place the day after AnimalhealthEurope revealed its new name and branding at a gala dinner in Brussels held to celebrate the organisation’s 30th anniversary.

Video Helps Raise 97 Grand!

We were delighted to receive a big thanks from Variety the  children’s charity in Yorkshire for helping them to raise a staggering £97,000 at this year’s Yorkshire Residential Property Awards.

Confirmation of the success came in a letter sent to us from Duncan Syers, the Chairman of Variety’s Yorkshire Region, who said:”Thank you so much for all of your help with the Awards. It’s safe to say that all the feedback we received relating to your films was very positive.

With your help we were able to raise a fantastic £97,000 and the means to proceed with the Variety Yorkshire Big Build in aid of Springwater Special School in Harrogate which I am sure you will agree, is an incredible outcome!”

Jonathan Morgan introduced the Big Build appeal with a  video of Springwater School in Harrogate, shot by Good Call Media, which encouraged everyone to dig deep.

Good Call Media is also carrying out filming in advance of this year’s Variety Yorkshire Business Awards, which is another major event in the regional calendar and will be held in December in Leeds. We are also producing a large range of videos to be used by Variety in London as part of our developing relationship with the charity.

Latest multi-national company instructs Good Call Media

Our expertise in journalism and story telling attracted the attention of the worldwide organisation JEOL and we are just about to enter the first phase of an ambitious filming project with the company.

We have been filming at the company’s manufacturing centres in Tokyo, Japan and also visiting their suppliers, Jastec, in Kobe, Japan and research centres in Yokohama, as part of the project to highlight their expertise in NMR technology. Phase two of the project will involve filming JEOL’s European NMR capability as the company underlines its commitment to expand its NMR production, maintenance and training throughout Europe.

JEOL NMR equipment

NMR is an abbreviation for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. An NMR instrument allows the molecular structure of a material to be analyzed by observing and measuring the interaction of nuclear spins when placed in a powerful magnetic field. For the analysis of molecular structure at the atomic level, electron microscopes and X-ray diffraction instruments can also be used, but the advantages of NMR are that sample measurements are non-destructive and there is less sample preparation required.Fields of application include bio, foods, and chemistry, as well as new fields such as battery films and organic EL, which are improving and developing at remarkable speed. NMR has become an indispensable analysis tool in cutting-edge science and technology fields.

The JEOL ethos was summed up by the company’s President, Gon-emon Kurihara, in his latest statement:

Our management philosophy pledges that “JEOL pursues the world’s highest technology based on Creativity” and “Research and Development”, thus contributing to progress in both Science and Human Society through its products. ” Our primary mission is to develop the most advanced and excellent instruments that satisfy the market needs and deliver them to the customers in a timely fashion.
