Animal Welfare Winners

In the first of our films depicting the work of the winners of the first ever World Veterinary Association (WVA) Animal Welfare Awards, held in Incheon, South Korea at the 33rd World Veterinary Congress, we feature two videos highlighting the background to two of the winners, Colombian vet, Marlyn Romero and Sean Wensley from the UK.

Dr Wensley has concentrated much of his professional life on the issue of animal welfare. He worked on various international welfare projects as a young volunteer veterinarian. He is currently Senior Vice President of the British Veterinary Association and has been active in promoting that organisation’s strategy on animal welfare and developing the five key factors in the UK’s Animal Welfare regulations.

Dr Romero was nominated for the Awards following her work in Colombia and Latin America on the research into animal welfare issues particularly in slaughterhouses. She has authored numerous publications on the subject and is leading a research group looking at animal welfare on the theme of ‘One Health’.

The Awards were supported by our key client, Ceva Santé Animale, the world wide animal health company and we also worked with the WVA to organise filming in six different continents to mark the contribution of the individual vets to the animal welfare arena. The issue of animal welfare is now playing a leading role in the work of veterinarians and also in the production of animals for food. Retailers and food companies are facing more pressure than ever to prove that they have solid policies to ensure that their suppliers have sound animal welfare policies in place.

Watch out for the next two video reports shortly.
